Douglas County Backpack Buddies Program is a community-based charitable organization designed to provide non-perishable weekend food to in-need students (PreK-12) to help them achieve academic success, improved behavior, and better attendance. Backpacks with seven meals are distributed to participating students each Friday so that they have adequate and nourishing food over the weekend - preparing them to learn on Monday. Better test scores, improved reading, and math skills decrease in behavior problems, and increased attendance have been attributed to participation in the Backpack Buddies Programs. The program is dependent on monetary and food donations from the community.
So, if you know of a student in Douglas County in need, don't be afraid to reach out to Backpack Buddies!

The Backpack Buddies Program has established a partnership with the "Pay It Forward Project" here in Douglas County to encourage volunteerism locally.
They have provided us a grant of $7,500 in 2026 in the support of our prpogram.
Thank you to NV Energy, who has provided a grant in the amount of $10,000,
and Epic Promise who has provided a grant in the amount of $5,000
to the Backpack Buddies Program for 2024.
